For over 20 years, I dedicated my time, money, and energy to playing Entropia Universeโa game that markets itself as a Real Cash Economy (RCE) MMO, where players can deposit and withdraw real-world money. I logged in five times a week, spending hours grinding, hunting, trading, and investing. Like many others, I poured thousands of real dollars into the game, under the assumption that my money and assets were secure.
Then one day, without warning, I tried to log in and was met with a cold, brutal message: “Your account has been locked.” No explanation. No prior notice. Just locked out, with real-world money trapped in the game.
I did what any reasonable person would doโI submitted a support ticket. That was almost 6 months ago. To this day, I have not received a single response from MindArk, the company behind Entropia Universe. No email. No explanation. Nothing.
Six months. In any other financial institution, that would be unacceptable. If a bank locked you out of your own account with your own money inside and refused to answer for over half a year, people would be screaming fraud. But because this is a video game with an RCE model, they seem to think they can get away with it.
And that is the problem. There are no laws regulating RCE games. MindArk and other companies running these types of games operate in a legal gray area, where they can take your money, claim it’s part of their “virtual economy,” and then cut you off whenever they feel like it.
This isn’t just about me. This is about the thousands of players who have invested real money into Entropia Universe under the false belief that it was a legitimate, trustworthy system. This is about all RCE games that lure people in with the promise of converting their in-game assets into real-world cash, only to pull the rug out when it’s convenient for them.
If you can deposit real money and withdraw real money, then these companies should be held to the same financial regulations as banks, trading platforms, and casinos. Otherwise, theyโre nothing more than unregulated money pits where players can lose everything with zero recourse.
What can be done?
- Regulation: Governments need to step in and regulate RCE games the same way they do with online gambling and financial services.
- Transparency & Accountability: Companies like MindArk should be required to provide clear policies, fast response times, and a legal way to dispute account locks and confiscations.
- Public Awareness: More people need to understand the risks of investing in RCE games before they become another victim.
I donโt know if Iโll ever get my account back. I donโt know if Iโll ever see a response from support. But I do know one thing: if youโre playing an RCE game, your money is not safe. And until laws change, companies like MindArk can and will continue to take advantage of their players.
Stay informed. Stay cautious. And most importantly, donโt make the same mistake I did.

That is rough and pretty dang disgraceful that they have not even bothered to contact you. I haven’t played in so long, never seemed to make enough in game to maintain my balance so found I was constantly putting money in but never got any money out.
Have my fingers crossed they surprise you and make contact.
